Göttingen celebrates the 7th CSD: Making diversity visible on August 16th!

Next Saturday, August 16, 2025, Göttingen's city center will come to life again when the seventh Christopher Street Day (CSD) takes place under the motto "Never quiet again - never invisible again!" is celebrated. The starting shot will be fired at 11:30 a.m. on Hiroshima Square, before the demonstration begins at 12:00 p.m. In the afternoon, from 3:00 p.m., a colorful street festival with numerous attractions will be celebrated on Albaniplatz. The event is organized by the newly founded association “CSD Göttingen”, which has secured support through close cooperation with the Göttingen Aidshilfe.

This year, special attention is being paid to accessibility so that people with wheelchairs, strollers or handcarts can easily take part in the festival. For security purposes, police and a security company will be deployed along the demonstration path, and there will be a medical service on site. Those interested can look forward to a varied route through the city center on the route designed by the organizers and moderated by drag queen Renelopé Fauxwell.

Make diversity visible

To underline the visibility of the queer community, the city of Göttingen is flying rainbow flags over the New and Old Town Halls. Mayor Petra Broistedt emphasizes the importance of diversity and combating discrimination. Göttingen joined the Diversity Charter in 2016 and is sending a clear signal of tolerance through various measures, such as setting up a rainbow bench at Kornmarkt and colorful steps at Albaniplatz.

The political demands of the queer community are as diverse as they are important. They include, among other things, changing the Basic Law to protect sexual and gender identity, maintaining a workable self-determination law and protection against hate crime and violence. Other concerns include the recognition of rainbow families and non-discriminatory access to health care.

Family friendly program

The little ones are also taken care of: In addition to the demonstrations and festive activities, guests can expect a children's festival in the Duderstadt city park on August 23rd. Here, the youngest children can have fun with hands-on activities and stage performances, and the proceeds from admission go to aid projects for UNICEF.

The event season in Göttingen is rounded off by further offerings from the university medicine, such as the “farbRaum” exhibition, which will be shown until August 31st. Future events, such as the series “The Italian Quarter Hour” from August 14th, will show the city’s cultural commitment.

Aside from the hustle and bustle, there are also serious topics. The Thuringian tax administration is warning about fraudulent emails in the name of ELSTER that are currently circulating in the region. These emails request confirmation of account details and pose a security risk for all citizens. It is advised not to click any links and, if you suspect anything, to inform the police immediately.

The CSD Göttingen will once again be a festival of colors, music and community - it's time to stand up loudly and proudly for equality and respect. Everyone who would like to be part of this celebration is invited to actively participate and show solidarity.
