It was a successful graduation for the graduates of the Arnoldi School (BBS1) in Göttingen! On June 30, 2025, the coveted Sylvester Märten Prizes were awarded as part of the closing ceremony. This award is given to the best vocational students in the retail sector and recognizes their outstanding commitment during their training. The Sylvester Märten Prize commemorates the traditional Göttingen store Sylvester Märten, which closed its doors in 2016. The associated foundation was founded in 2013 by Wolfgang Lange, a former trainee at the Arnoldi School. The aim of this is to promote training in the retail sector and to give appropriate recognition to the exceptional achievements of the students. In addition, Alexander Grosse, Chairman of the Hanover Trade Association, spoke very positively about all 43 graduates of the training branch and encouraged them to actively participate in the change in retail.
Commitment and community spirit
The Arnoldi Prizes were also awarded during the ceremony. This award has been given out since 1978 in collaboration with Gothaer Versicherung and recognizes attitude and a sense of community. This year's winners are:
- Pia Stankiewicz (Kaufmännische Berufsschule) für ihre herausragenden schulischen Leistungen und soziale Kompetenz.
- Elisa Kribben (Berufliches Gymnasium Wirtschaft) für ihr soziales Engagement und sehr gute schulische Leistungen.
- Zisan Nida Cetinkaya (Berufsfachschule Wirtschaft) für ihren sehr guten schulischen Abschluss und positiven Einfluss auf ihre Klasse.
- Yuliia Kopyt (Berufseinstiegsschule Wirtschaft), die vor 18 Monaten aus der Ukraine kam, für ihre positive Entwicklung und Teamfähigkeit.
In their words of thanks, these award winners emphasized how important support and cohesion are in the school community. They embody the values that Ernst Wilhelm Arnoldi once defined for his school.
Retail training
The importance of vocational school, especially in training to become a retail clerk, cannot be overestimated. These educational institutions have existed since the 19th century and form one of the two main pillars in the dual training system. Not only general subjects such as German, mathematics and politics are taught here, but also specific content that is tailored to vocational training.
