Fighting for democracy: Demos against right-wing extremism in Germany!

In July 2025, protests against right-wing extremism, hatred and anti-Semitism are simmering in Germany. Today is not only another date in the calendar, but also the occasion for numerous demonstrations in various cities. The members of the Bundestag have now taken a summer break after the week of meetings from July 7th to 11th - the next meeting is not scheduled until September 8th, 2025. But while political business is at a standstill, resistance to right-wing ideologies remains alive. This is how democracy, tolerance and peaceful coexistence are demonstrated, with numerous events such as workshops, readings and debates throughout Germany news.de reported.

The demonstrations are organized by various groups that speak out against the AfD and possible cooperation with right-wing forces. Protests worth millions have already increased since the beginning of 2023. According to information from rnd.de, over 1.7 million people have taken part in these protests since a major protest in January. And the movement continues: The largest demonstration took place on February 8, 2025 in Munich, with participant numbers between 250,000 and 320,000, depending on the source.

Current protests at a glance

The protests are widespread across the country. Here is an overview of the most important demonstration dates by federal state:

  • Baden-Württemberg: Stuttgart (10. Juli): Offenes Treffen Antifaschistisches Aktionsbündnis.
  • Bayern: Regensburg (14. Juli): Plenum der Studis gegen Rechts.
  • Berlin: Plena der Studis gegen Rechts (10. Juli, 17. Juli).
  • Brandenburg: Bad Belzig (12. Juli): CSD Bad Belzig.
  • Hamburg: Buntes Picknick Marienthal (12. Juli).
  • Niedersachsen: Hannover (22. Juli): ANTIFA-Elch.
  • Sachsen: Döbeln (10. Juli, 17. Juli, 24. Juli, 31. Juli): Bunter Nachmittag.
  • Sachsen-Anhalt: Halberstadt (10. Juli): Sprechstunde gegen Rassismus.
  • Thüringen: Nordhausen (11. Juli): Antifa Soli Tresen.

This list represents just a small selection of the many activities that will take place in the coming days. Further demonstrations and actions are also being planned in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt to take a stand against growing right-wing extremism.

The mobilization continues

The mobilization against racist and extremist tendencies shows how serious the situation is perceived. According to tagesschau.de, the motto of the protests is: “We are the firewall: alliance against the right”. Political leaders emphasize that these protests are a strong signal in defense of our values. This is also what Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said, who sees the demonstrations as an important contribution to democracy. The backing of well-known politicians gives activists additional impetus to fight for a more diverse and tolerant Germany.

Amid this wave of protests, criticism of the AfD and its policies remains a central concern. It remains exciting to see how the political landscape in Germany will continue to develop and whether the pressure from the street can also lead to long-term changes in the established parties. In any case, it is clear: the voice of civil society will not be silenced and the mobilization against the right is in good shape.
