Koblenz welcomes Göttingen: start of the season in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga!
On September 28th, 2025 the time has finally come: The EPG Baskets Koblenz start the new season of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProA at 5:00 p.m. in the EPG Arena. The opening opponent couldn't be more exciting - BG Göttingen, recently relegated from the easyCredit BBL, is doing the honors. After Göttingen's relegation was sealed in April of this year following a disappointing defeat against Braunschweig, there have been some changes in the team.
The new head coach Fabian Strauss will provide fresh impetus in Koblenz. With players like US guard Jordan Sears, who scored 13 points in the last cup game against Telekom Baskets Bonn, the return to the first division of the Basketball Bundesliga should be tackled as quickly as possible. The Göttingen team currently sees the preliminary round as an opportunity to gather themselves and play with their own identity, as assistant coach Patrick Carney emphasizes.
Koblenz with a broad chest
The EPG Baskets Koblenz, on the other hand, present themselves confidently. With a new coaching team led by head coach Stephan Dohrn, who previously looked after the Dragons Rhöndorf, the Koblenz team did brilliantly in the preparation phase. Four out of six test matches were won, including impressive results such as 103:51 against ASC Theresianum Mainz.
With captain Badu Buck, who previously played for the Artland Dragons, and former Göttingen player Alex Möller in the squad, the team is well positioned. In addition, foreigners like US forward Tim Smith, who averaged 17.4 points and 5.1 rebounds last season, and NBA G-League newcomer D.J. Jeffries, hope for a successful season. The coach expects an intense home match atmosphere, to which the support of the spectators should also contribute.
A duel of opposites
Sunday's game will not only be an initial assessment for both teams, but also an exciting duel in a highly competitive league. Koblenz wants to defend its good start, while Göttingen wants to build on the momentum from the cup and get everyday life in the league under control. The Baskets Koblenz finished sixteenth in the table last season and are determined to further improve their position.
To follow the match, spectators not only have the option of coming to the EPG Arena, but can also watch the game live for a fee on Sporteurope.tv. Tickets are available in both the online shop www.epgbasketskoblenz.de as well as available at the box office.
At a time when the Basketball Bundesliga is presenting new tensions and challenges - one day after the opening game between FC Bayern Munich and Science City Jena - the focus is now on the baskets. Will they be able to cope with the constant pressure from the ProA? Only time can tell.
