Dentistry celebrates 32 graduates: A new beginning in Göttingen!

On June 20, 2025, the time had come: 32 dental graduates celebrated their graduation in the auditorium on Wilhelmsplatz at the University of Göttingen. At this solemn ceremony, which lasted one and a half hours, the examination certificates were presented by Professor Philipp Franz Meyer-Marcotty, who also gave the keynote speech. Under the title “The teachings of Hippocrates in modern dentistry – more relevant than ever!” he gave an exciting insight into the challenges and developments of the department. On this occasion, 27 of the registered dentists were present and remarkable respect was shown towards the graduates.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Dr. Axel Wiesner, Vice President of the Lower Saxony Dental Association, took the floor and expressed his appreciation for the consistently excellent achievements of the graduates. The graduates themselves presented their experiences in impressive speeches: Konstanze Wagner and Philipp Vaid took the opportunity to share their personal experiences and suggestions from their time as students.

Honors for the best

A very special moment was the honoring of Carla Jähn and Luisa Kleemiß, who were rewarded by the jury with a training voucher for their outstanding achievements. Such awards are not only confirmation of the efforts of the past few years, but also an encouraging incentive for further steps in professional life.

During the ceremony, the Geneva Pledge was also taken together by the graduates and the professor. This tradition symbolizes the ethical demands placed on dentistry and is often viewed as a rite of passage in which new dentists commit to acting responsibly in their profession. The event was musically accompanied by Marc Tröster on the saxophone and Ruben Dorn on the piano, who contributed to the festive atmosphere with their performances.

A look at previous graduation ceremonies

At the most recent dental graduation ceremony in January 2025, held in the Alfred Hessel Hall, 28 graduates were present. Professor Dr. Annette Wiegand, dean of studies at the medical faculty, opened the celebration, while President Henner Bunke from the Lower Saxony Dental Association encouraged the graduates with his greetings. Back then, too, Professor Meyer-Marcotty gave the same keynote speech and the best, including Alina Hülsewede and Marco Wucherpfennig, were honored. These moments illustrate how continually the study programs in Göttingen produce outstanding dentists.

In conclusion, it can be said that dental graduates in Göttingen not only reach the end of a chapter, but also have the beginning of a promising professional career ahead of them. It will be exciting to see how they will put their knowledge into practice and what innovative strength the new generation will bring to dentistry.
