New variant in view

The new Corona variant called Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), which was first discovered in January 2025, is particularly interesting. The World Health Organization (WHO) classified it as a “variant under observation” in May 2025. So far, however, there is no evidence of more serious courses of the disease, report the experts news.de.

In Goslar, a total of 58,745 COVID-19 infections and 425 deaths from or with Corona have been reported (as of June 21, 2025). These figures lead to an infection rate of 43.82% and a mortality rate of 0.72%, as corona-in-zahlen.de notes.

Vaccination as a key to safety

As far as vaccinations are concerned, Lower Saxony took 6th place in a comparison of the federal states in terms of the corona vaccination rate. As of April 8, 2023, 76.3% of the population had completed primary vaccination, while 77.9% had already received at least one vaccination. Currently counts vaccinationnumbers.de a total of 5,394,911 people who received a booster vaccination. It is also important to me to mention at this point that the vaccination rate in Lower Saxony is continuously increasing. By February 2024, a total of 18,020,463 vaccinations had taken place, meaning that almost a fifth of the population had been boosted.

Overall, the situation couldn't be more stable, and the findings surrounding vaccinations give reason to hope that the corona pandemic will continue to remain under control in Germany and especially in Lower Saxony. The entire population is called upon to take the protective measures seriously in order to maintain the positive development.
