Insight into the accident numbers
In terms of traffic accidents, Germany recorded around 2.5 million accidents in 2024, a slight decrease compared to previous years. While the number of accidents with personal injuries has remained at a stable level, the number of accidents with property damage has increased. Statista reports that the most common causes of such accidents are insufficient distance, inadequate speed and the influence of alcohol. Another worrying trend is the growing number of accidents involving e-bikes and e-scooters.
However, a bright spot in the statistics is the “Vision Zero” goal, which aims to eliminate traffic deaths by 2050. EU transport ministers have committed to this initiative to address what many consider to be one of society's biggest problems.
The incident in Goslar once again highlights the challenges that road users and emergency services face. It remains to be hoped that through increased safety precautions and greater awareness among road users, such accidents will occur less frequently in the future.
