Kronen-Lichtspiele in Bad Pyrmont: Festive prize for unique cinema!
The Kronen-Lichtspiele in Bad Pyrmont were pleased to receive a special award! At the ceremonial presentation of the cinema program awards on June 26, 2025 in the Thega Filmpalast in Hildesheim, the cinema was honored for its committed annual film program and special film series. A total of 65 film theaters from Lower Saxony and Bremen received awards, a campaign worth 150,000 euros and aimed at promoting the diversity and quality of cinema culture in the region.
Torben Scheller, the operator of the Kronen-Lichtspiele, rightly emphasized the importance of the cinemas for local cultural life. The Kronen-Lichtspiele were specifically honored in the “Cinema Program Prize for the creation of individual outstanding film special programs and program series” category and can now look forward to 2,500 euros. The extraordinary program, away from the usual Hollywood scheme, highlights the cinema, and this is also honored by the jury, which pays attention to the use of German and European films as well as special screenings.
The award ceremony was not only a celebratory occasion, but also an opportunity to point out the decades-long tradition of awards in Lower Saxony and Bremen. The cinema program awards have been presented since 1992, and the Kronen-Lichtspiele are now among the award winners for the 21st time in a row. The event also honored the 50th anniversary of the VHS basement cinema in Hildesheim. Roland Brinkmann, managing director of the Thega-Filmpalast, welcomed around 120 cinema operators and accompanied the event with greetings from State Secretary Frank Doods and Hildesheim's Mayor Dr. Ingo Meyer.
Of course there was also entertainment - comedian and magician Till Frömmel ensured a good mood, while the guests present were able to experience the Nordmedia-funded feature film “THE SCHOOL OF MAGICAL ANIMALS 4” in advance, which is coming to cinemas. Award presenter Heiko Pinkowski presented the certificates to the winners, recognizing the commitment and creativity behind the programs.
The criteria for selecting the award winners take into account not only the number of visitors, but also the particular competitive situation and the use of high-quality film productions. All of this contributes to the fact that cinema culture in Lower Saxony and Bremen continues to gain in importance and that cinephiles in the region can enjoy a varied range of films.
If you would like to find out more about funding opportunities in the film industry, you can find detailed information on the website of nordmedia, the Lower Saxony/Bremen film and media company, which not only awards cinema program prizes, but is also active in many other areas of film funding.
The Kronen-Lichtspiele award impressively shows that even in smaller cinemas there is a lot of passion and creativity that enriches the cinema experience for all film lovers. It is not for nothing that events like the cinema program awards show how valuable a vibrant cinema culture is and how important it is to support it.
