Art in the way: Discover treasures in Großenwieden and Welsede!
Next weekend from September 13th to 14th, the seventh edition of the “Art in the Way” event will take place in Großenwieden and Welsede. This special cultural event attracts art lovers to the picturesque villages of the Hesse region. Britta Samsen-Huch and Barbara Jahn, the initiators, not only bring art to people, but also create a unique experience by presenting art in unusual and inviting places.
The event can look back on a long tradition, as the premiere took place in September 2012 at Nora and Friedrich Heißmeyer's Künstlerhof. Over 20 exhibition locations – including barns, workshops, gardens and even the church – open their doors to visitors. At 23 stands, artists from Switzerland, the Netherlands and even from distances such as Dresden and Rinteln show their works in various art forms: from painting and ceramics to sculpture and embroidery.
A celebration of diversity
A total of 23 artists have announced their participation, including notable participants such as Alex Zwalen from Switzerland, Ukn Lee from Korea and Elisabeth Lasche from Bielefeld. Many of the artists now travel from far away, sometimes in vans, to present their work to a wider public. The villages of Großenwieden and Welsede actively support the event by not only providing exhibition rooms, but also offering overnight accommodation for the artists.
The atmosphere of the event is intended to enable those interested in art to seek direct contact with the artists and exchange ideas with them. This corresponds to the goal of “Art in the Way” to get to know the villages in a new way and to present art in a different light. They are all about encounters and exchanges and invite visitors to experience first-hand the creativity and talent that this region has to offer.
A look beyond the borders
While “Kunst im Weg” is taking place in Hesse, another art event is also attracting attention: the “offen.” in Burgenland. This event, originally known as “Studio Open Days,” opened the doors to 130 artists across Austria on May 7 and June 4, 2023. The aim was to show the diversity of Burgenland's art scene and appeal to a broader audience. Here too, visitors were able to visit studios, workshops and work spaces, which were often only accessible on these days.
If you look beyond the borders when looking at the art scene, Berlin cannot go unmentioned. This vibrant city is a contemporary art hotspot with hundreds of galleries showcasing various art forms, from fine art to painting to NFT digital artworks. A lively dialogue between established artists and emerging talents characterizes the art scene here and attracts art lovers from all over the world.
The diversity and creativity that can be found in the art scene makes it clear that art can not only flourish in big cities, but also offers an impressive platform for exchange and inspiration in small villages like Großenwieden and Welsede. It will be exciting to see what new talents and creative ideas can be discovered at “Kunst im Weg” this year!
