New association SchutzRaum” in Hameln fights for abused children!

There is a breath of fresh air for child protection in Hamelin: a new project has brought to life the establishment of an association that is responsible for the implementation of a child-friendly place specifically for victims of abuse and violence. The newly founded association called “SchutzRaum – Childprotection Weserbergland e.V.” has already taken concrete steps to set up rooms for questioning affected children. [Dewezet].

A central aspect of the project is the rental of suitable rooms that are to be equipped in a child-friendly manner. Discussions about possible rental properties are already underway, and a floor of the district court branch on Ostertorwall is being considered as a potential location. In order to secure the necessary financial resources to furnish the rooms, existing individual donations will be used.

Structure and objectives

Anke Blume was elected chairwoman, while Isabel Rinne and Tim Menke take on additional position responsibilities on the board. Although the non-profit registrations and the application for non-profit status are still pending, the association is ready to take the first steps towards offering assistance to children and young people. Funding for the support, examination and interrogation of victims of crime is also being considered.

The project is also supplemented by the initiatives of the Kinderschutzbund Hameln. This advice center for sexual abuse and violence offers free and unbureaucratic support for those affected and their relatives. With projects such as “Strong Parents – Strong Children”, homework help and other diverse offerings, the Child Protection Association is committed and future-oriented. The next edition of the “We pack satchels” project will take place at the end of June in the Hameln children’s playhouse.

Cooperation for child protection

In order to effectively ensure the protection of children, the involvement of additional organizations is planned. The board of the “SchutzRaum” is to be expanded to include assessors, which could result in stronger networking with organizations such as the Child Protection Association. The forces of the child protection centers could also make a contribution here. These centers promote an everyday life without violence and promote emotional bonds and children's self-confidence.

There is not yet a specific time frame for the realization of the project. The association hopes to be able to hire the necessary full-time staff, but faces the challenge of securing the necessary donations. Anyone interested can now apply for a supporting membership starting at an annual fee of 60 euros to support this important approach to child protection.

A lot is currently being done in the region to create a protective space for abused children. The commitment of many volunteers and experts shows that there is a strong interest in positive change and that together we are ready to address the issue of child protection.
