Kiosk robbery in Lehrte: 26-year-old receives 38 months in prison!
A raid on Peter Düe's kiosk in Lehrte on February 22, 2025 caused excitement in the region. The 26-year-old defendant, a native of Syria, was sentenced to 38 months in prison by the Hildesheim regional court. This comes from a report by haz.de out.
The case, which at times resembles a crime film, began with an unpleasant incident that occurred after a careful exploration of the kiosk and a harmless purchase of energy drinks. The perpetrator returned masked with a hood, gloves and surgical mask, pulled out a folding knife and threatened to demand cash. But the kiosk operator resisted and defended himself with an old flagpole, which ultimately led to the perpetrator injuring himself while trying to escape.
A life full of difficulties
The convicted Syrian came to Germany as a refugee in 2021 and settled in a container village in Hanover. According to the judge, the man was not inexperienced in criminal activity and had not only accumulated debts through various odd jobs, but also consumed drugs. Despite the failed attack, he confessed to four other kiosk robberies in Hanover, for which no charges have yet been brought.
The court ruled out incapacity due to drug use, but noted that the defendant used marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine without any addiction being established. The judge used his discretion to evaluate the perpetrator's comprehensive confession in favor of the defendant.
The current crime situation
Interestingly, this incident comes at a time when overall crime in Germany is showing a decline. The 2024 police crime statistics show that registered crimes were reduced by 1.7%, mainly through partial legalization of cannabis. Still, there are worrying increases in other areas, such as violent crime, which rose 1.5% and reached its highest level since 2007. The BKA also reports an increase in suspected children and young people of 11.3% and 3.8%.
In addition to this incident, there was another attack on a kiosk on Hildesheim's Rathausstrasse on April 1, 2024. An unknown perpetrator demanded money and cigarettes while pointing a long knife. The search measures have so far been unsuccessful. This shows that the problem of violent attacks is not limited to a single case, but encompasses a broader spectrum that affects the safety of many people in the region. How hildesheimer-presse.de reported, witnesses to the attack are called upon to provide information.
