Lüneburg shines at the 45th International Hanseatic Day in Visby!

The 45th International Hanseatic Day took place in charming Visby in Sweden from June 5th to 8th, 2025. Right in the middle: a committed delegation from Lüneburg, which, under the leadership of city councilor Matthias Rink, presented the northern German flair and cultural diversity of the city. At his side were the Youth Hanseatic League representative Kristin Heuer and the artist Simone Fezer, who showed a special performance on the topic of “Relationships” as part of HANSEartWORKS. In doing so, they made it clear that Lüneburg not only has an important history, but is also active and creative in the present.

With a conspicuous presence at the Hanseatic Market, which brought together 78 Hanseatic cities, the Lüneburg delegation was a real eye-catcher. This was not just about advertising the city, but also about strengthening economic networks and promoting sustainable concepts. The exchange took place in many areas, such as tourism and under the motto “Fair Hanseatic League”, which focuses on fair and sustainable practices.

A celebration of international understanding

The Hanseatic Day is much more than just an ordinary meeting - it celebrates tradition and international understanding amidst a colorful mix of activities, markets and exhibitions. Each year a different Hanseatic city hosts, and Visby proved to be the perfect place to bring the heritage and values ​​of the Hanseatic League to life. Visitors had the opportunity to find out about travel offers and taste local specialties, while dance and music groups from various Hanseatic cities created a lively atmosphere.

The Lüneburg delegation took the opportunity to experience not only their city, but also the many facets of Hanseatic Day. This was particularly noticeable through the many stands of the Hanseatic cities. Here you not only met old acquaintances, but also made new acquaintances - an important step in promoting future collaborations.

Looking forward to the next Hanseatic Day

Preparations for the next International Hanseatic Day are already underway. In 2024, Stargard will take on the honorable task of welcoming the Hanseatic cities in Poland. With a breath of fresh air and new ideas, the gathering in Stargard will certainly offer plenty of space for creativity and exchange.

The 45th International Hanseatic Day was not only a wonderful celebration of coming together, but also a platform for everyone involved to present their strengths and offerings. It remains to be seen what the next meeting will bring, but the Lüneburg delegation has provided a lot of new impetus in Visby through its active participation.
