Lüneburg mourns: A last fighter for communism has died!

With the death of Conny, Lüneburg has lost an important representative of communist ideas. The 69-year-old communist was known not only for his strength of argument, but also for his unwavering sense of humor. [Lueneburg Aktuell]. In particular, he remembered figures like Franz Holländer, who fought against the Nazis and Hitler and stood up for the values that he himself represented until his last breath.

Although his views on the rule of the proletariat were sometimes described as inconsistent, Conny always stuck to his ideals. The German Communist Party, often characterized as the GDR's West German fan club, played a central role in his life. Although he saw the DKP as having a duty to actively participate in election campaigns, he refrained from making election recommendations, which expressed his individuality and independence.

Commitment and transfer of values

Conny's commitment went far beyond the political stage. He was active in the VVN-BdA and took part in actions against right-wing activities in his city. Even if his opinions sometimes differed from those of his union colleagues, there was always solidarity support, especially during strikes and demonstrations. Conny was a member of the trade, banking and insurance union, which later merged with verdi, and fought tirelessly for the rights of employees.

His sense of responsibility also extended to youth; He conveyed important values to young people, especially in the context of the youth consecration, a secular celebration that sets itself apart from church traditions. The youth consecration gave him the perfect opportunity to pass on his beliefs and ideals, which helped many young people lead self-determined lives.

Fighters against health challenges

Despite the health challenges caused by chemotherapy and immunotherapy, he didn't let it get him down. Conny documented his state of health on Facebook for months and thus maintained close contact with his friends and comrades. This battle against illness exemplified his will to live, even if he expressed a pessimistic view of the future of socialist systems. However, he believed that the values of socialism would remain constant.

The loss of Conny leaves a gap in the Lüneburg community, which looks back fondly on his contributions and commitment. The Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution report from 2009 mentioned both the DKP and Conny's role, but ultimately he is remembered above all as a person who stood up for his ideals and his fellow human beings.

His journey from retail to aged care was characterized by a constant pursuit of improvement and commitment. After his retirement, he sought other horizons, but remained closely connected to his hometown, Lüneburg. We now have to say goodbye to a person who committed his heart and passion to his convictions.
