Lüneburg's new living concept: comfort and safety for seniors!
The city of Lüneburg has taken a new step towards future-oriented living. The ceremonial key handover took place on July 7, 2025 in the newly designed Neue Sülze 25/26 building complex. This innovative project offers an optimal solution for seniors who want to live independently but do not want to forego the necessary service and security. During the handover, Volker Bescht, President of Johanniter Lüneburg, emphasized the important role of this residential project for the future development of Lüneburg. “It’s a sign that we have a good handle on the needs of our older citizens,” said Bescht. Johanniter report.
Mayor Christel John conveyed warm greetings from Mayor Claudia Kalisch and emphasized the importance of the location. Hannes Wendler, member of the Johanniter state board, also welcomed the guests and emphasized the attractiveness of the area. Dirk Gähle, board member of the Harz-Heide regional association, reported on the rapid processing of the plans, which were implemented in less than a year.
A new living concept for the older generation
The concept behind this project not only includes senior-friendly rental apartments, but also a holistic package of services. Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. has taken over the former GBS senior citizens' residence and plans to create around 45 senior-friendly apartments in the old palace buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. This is done taking into account monument preservation requirements in order to preserve the charm of the historical buildings.
Demographic change calls for innovative ideas in housing construction. There is an increasing need for age-appropriate living arrangements that not only offer accessibility, but also take the comfort and social integration of older people into account. Experts emphasize that modern living concepts require flexible floor plans that meet the individual needs of residents. For example, modular residential units could be created that can be adapted to personal circumstances. Real estate diva clarifies.
Focus on community and support
A central element of the new project is the integration of care and support services. Outpatient shared apartments and individually bookable services form an important basis for ensuring a high quality of life for the residents. Common spaces and activities also promote social exchange and mobility.
The Residenz Café is to be reopened and they are looking for new tenants to enrich the offering. The area's outdoor areas are also designed to meet the needs of older people, for example with senior-friendly outdoor fitness equipment and comfortable seating. Living in old age highlights.
The building application for the project is expected to be submitted in September, with completion planned for mid or late 2027. Interested parties are warmly invited to contact the Johannitern directly to receive more information and to clarify any questions they may have. “We want this project to be not just a living space, but a home for many older people,” concludes Volker Bescht.
