Street renovation in Lüneburg: Zeppelinstrasse will be renewed from June 23!

From June 23, the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg will take a close look at Zeppelinstraße in the Hafen industrial area. This is done as part of a comprehensive renovation program that is supposed to tackle the urgent problems of the dilapidated infrastructure. Because the condition of Zeppelinstrasse is anything but gratifying: potholes and a dilapidated road make it necessary to renew the section at the confluence with Lilienthalstrasse. For the duration of the construction work, which is expected to take two weeks, the road is fully blocked, as reported by Lüneburg.

In order not to disturb the flow of traffic during this work, a redirection signage is set up, which is set up in coordination with the local companies. Passengers who rely on bus lines 5100 and 5120 cannot control the Gebrüder-Heyn-Straße, Von-Stern-Straße and Lilienthalstrasse stops during the construction period. Here it is advisable to switch to bus line 5010, which also stops at the Hagen turning point.

master plan catches renovation backlog

The construction project in Zeppelinstrasse is only one of many that are planned for road renovation as part of the new master plan. According to the Lüne blog, this 5-year plan was presented in May 2024 and provides for the renewal of the street sections that suffered most. The Dahlenburger Landstrasse, Bleckeder Landstraße, Bessemerstraße and Deutsch-Evern-Weg are particularly affected. This is particularly important in order to address the urgent need for action due to the damage caused by the extreme winter and the numerous rainfall. Uta Hesebeck, head of the civil engineering department, emphasizes how much the potholes and water damage have affected the substructure of many streets.

The mayor Claudia Kalisch pointed out that winter has only reinforced the existing problems and that a renovation jam has arisen that must now be tackled. As part of the master plan, the renovation work is given priority on main roads, detour routes and public transport, which should not only ensure car traffic, but also the mobility of the citizens: inside.

costs and funding

The costs for the renovation of Zeppelinstrasse amount to around 125,000 euros. Overall, around 1.5 million euros are provided in 2024 to eliminate the renovation backlog, and the stage planning for 2025 to 2028 provides for a total volume of around 10.8 million euros for various types of streets. Particularly gratifying: Funding has already been raised for many of the upcoming work in order to minimize the city's own contribution and finance the renovation projects.

The citizens: Inside, it can be excited to see what will happen in Lüneburg in terms of street renovation in the coming years. The master plan promises a holistic answer to the challenges that the infrastructure brings.
