Lower Saxony is investing 20 million euros in life science startups!
A lot is happening in the field of life sciences in Lower Saxony! With generous funding totaling 20 million euros, the “GOe FUTURE” project was launched, which is intended to significantly boost the startup landscape in the Hanover-Göttingen-Braunschweig city triangle. The initiative aims to double the number of start-ups in this sector in the coming years. Loud NDR The financing consists of 10 million euros in private capital and a grant of the same amount from the federal government. The aim is to strengthen the life sciences as a key technology in the region.
GOe FUTURE wants to increase the number of startups in the life sciences to over 100 in the next five years. This includes research areas in medicine and biology, which play a key role in the healthcare system. The initiative has set itself the ambitious goal of consolidating Lower Saxony's position as a leading hub for scientific innovation in Europe, reports IDW.
Partnerships and university support
An important part of GOe FUTURE are the many partnerships between universities and companies. The network is broadly based with 13 universities and research institutions as well as 14 companies. The universities in Göttingen and Hanover, the Hanover Medical School and well-known research institutes such as the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes are all involved. Around 90,000 students are addressed through these collaborations, around 20,000 of them in the life sciences, according to information from Life Science Valley.
The initiative goes beyond simple funding and offers a “one-stop shop” to support founders, who are supported from the idea through to product development. Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Zeisberg, who coordinates the application process, emphasizes the need to provide startups with seamless support.
Innovations and local startups
What is particularly exciting is the large number of innovative startups that are already based in Lower Saxony. Projects such as Allogenetics GmbH, which develops innovative methods for the immunological invisibility of donor organs, or Avocet Bio GmbH, which researches antiviral therapies using CRISPR/Cas13 to combat RNA viruses, show the region's great potential. Other startups worth mentioning include:
- Cardior Pharmaceuticals GmbH: Entwickelt Therapien gegen Herzkrankheiten.
- Digity GmbH: Produziert individuelle Fingerorthesen und Exoskelette zur Rehabilitation.
- Repairon GmbH: Arbeitet an künstlichem Herzgewebe aus Stammzellen.
Thanks to the commitment shown by GOe FUTURE, the networking of science and business in Lower Saxony is being raised to a new level. A greater emphasis on innovation cycles and support for life sciences could not only create jobs here, but also set international standards.
With all of these factors, Lower Saxony could soon not only be known for its traditional industries, but also establish itself as a hotspot for innovative startups in the field of life sciences!
