The judiciary has now made a much-discussed judgment final: the Bremen regional court has imposed sentences on two men who killed their landlord in 2020. [NDR]. The court did not find any error in their favor.
The main perpetrator, a 46-year-old, was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for manslaughter and illegal possession of a weapon. His accomplice, who stood by him after the crime, has to be behind bars for 5.5 years. The third man, who was also accused, was successfully acquitted in June 2024.
The crime and its consequences
The poignant case took place in April 2020 when the landlord lost his life in a dispute with the two men. According to the investigation, they suffocated him with a plastic bag. The body was then dismembered and buried in the area around Bremen. Initially, the victim's family believed it was a missing person case, while the police initially did not suspect any crime.
In September 2021, the trio finally came into the sights of investigators. Solving this cruel act required an extensive search for the body, which included digging up a field in Posthausen. Despite decades of experience, only individual bones of the victim could be found, which makes the circumstances of the crime even more tragic. The fight against crime was intensified with the use of excavators and search dogs, but the police did not want to disclose many details.
A case that moves
