The role of the office for regional state development

In Lower Saxony, there have been four regional state development offices since 2014 that initiate and coordinate regional development concepts and funding projects. These offices act as approval bodies for programs such as "leaders", "village development" and "Zile". The argument has been carrying out independent support activities since 2017 and are also involved in new projects. A special focus is on rural development, where targeted support is offered to secure the attractiveness of small cities and villages as places of residence.

The state government has recognized the need to promote rural spaces in a targeted manner, especially in view of the challenges of demographic change. With the support of programs from the European Agricultural Fund and national funds, the relevance of these offices to promote cultural heritage and the preservation of nature and landscape increases. Ottmar von Holtz emphasizes the role of rural areas for the success of Lower Saxony and sees economic success and social cohesion as a central goals of his term.
