Late on Friday afternoon there was a dramatic accident on the B75 between Rotenburg/Wümme and Waffensen in which a truck collided with a tractor trailer. How NDR Reportedly, the truck's cab was completely torn off the chassis in the impact. The 64-year-old truck driver remained trapped in the driver's cab and had to be freed by the fire department.
The driver of the tractor, a 61-year-old man, was also very unlucky. He had parked his trailer on the side of the road due to technical problems, but the truck recognized the danger too late and drove into him without braking. Both drivers suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital, although the tractor driver was not trapped, unlike his truck counterpart.
Fast rescue measures and environmental protection
Around 70 firefighters and rescue services were on site to care for the injured and eliminate the consequences of the accident. As is usual in such situations, a dangerous goods train was also involved because a water-polluting liquid had leaked from a container in the truck. This fluid was damaged during the inspection of the truck and the fire department immediately took measures to capture the harmful substance. Despite all efforts, a small part of the liquid managed to penetrate the shoulder. As a precautionary measure, firefighters protected the adjacent green area with binding agents to prevent further environmental damage.
The exact circumstances of the accident and the exact amount of damage are currently unclear. Emergency services were able to complete the rescue efforts at a later hour, around 11 p.m., after most of the danger had been eliminated.
This incident not only raises questions about road safety, but also shows how important it is to act quickly and be well prepared in an emergency. The interaction between the fire brigade, rescue services and hazardous materials officers worked well here to prevent anything worse from happening.
