VfB Oldenburg: U17 and C-juniors disappoint in Lower Saxony league!
On the last matchday of the Lower Saxony Football League, VfB Oldenburg's U17s lost out and ended the season in bittersweet third place. The farewell to the season was marked by a 1:4 defeat against Göttingen 05, which secured relegation. The game took place under unusual conditions: Due to a CSD parade, there were delays in the start of the game, which made it even more difficult for the Oldenburg team to concentrate. The guests from Göttingen shamelessly took advantage of this and were already leading 3-0 at half-time - a lead that they ultimately defended cleverly.
Göttingen did everything right in the first half. The goals from Bastian Weidele and Jaron Kriebel ensured a comfortable lead. As the game progressed, Hassan Kaawar fought successfully and reduced the score to 1:3 in the 56th minute. But the VfB youth were denied further upswing: Towa Wolff restored the old distance in the final phase and made everything clear for the team from Göttingen with his goal to make it 4-1. The Oldenburg team missed a few more chances that could have made the game more exciting.
U15 and C juniors fail
Another less than pleasing result came from the U15, who narrowly lost to HSC Hannover in a crucial game for the championship. The decision was made and the Oldenburgers had to give up the title to the Hanoverians. The C juniors also experienced an unfortunate finale: They had to watch from a distance as the HSC triumphed 4-0 against VfL Westercelle and thus won the championship title.
U17 coach Yimin Ehlers, whose farewell game this was, was critical after the defeat. "We were out of shape and couldn't show what we can do. Göttingen was particularly motivated because they were fighting to stay in the league," explained Ehlers after the game. His departure from Oldenburg after this season is due to professional reasons, which puts additional strain on the situation for his team.
Overall, the season was mixed for the Oldenburg youth. Despite the solid placement in the U17 Lower Saxony League, the bitter aftertaste remains about the missed titles and the painful defeats. In the future, restructuring is now underway, which aims to strengthen youth work in Oldenburg and secure future successes. Further developments in this regard will shape the coming weeks.
