High-tech from Hasbergen: Trainees develop automatic grills for parties!

The training to become a mechatronics engineer is not only reflected in theory, but also in creative and innovative projects. Trainees from an agricultural machinery manufacturer in Hasbergen (Osnabrück district) recently developed an impressive automatic grill machine as their final thesis. The idea comes from training manager Tim Schade, who is himself an enthusiastic barbecue fan. The trainees not only act within the scope of their duty, but also show a great interest in practice.

The grill machine, which is based on a converted salt spreader, impresses with its design: the interior is lined with stainless steel, which is not only hygienic but also promises a long service life. The trainees created the entire control and programming of the device themselves. Jonas Antweiler was responsible for the electronics, while Lasse Vogt took over the mechanical aspects. A little craftsmanship and technical know-how were perfectly combined here.

Efficiency on a new level

The grill boasts a spectacular output: a freshly prepared bratwurst is delivered every 17 seconds, which corresponds to over 200 sausages per hour. The magazine is filled manually, but the rest of the work is done by technology. After around four minutes, the sausages are ready to enjoy. A real highlight for every event or trade fair! Even if the special grill is not mass-produced, it will be used at events in the future and will not only put the trainees' craftsmanship skills, but also the mechatronics engineer's apprenticeship, in the spotlight.

There is a lot of exciting content behind the training to become a mechatronics engineer. Mechatronics combines mechanics, electronics and information technology, and opens up many specialization opportunities for graduates. Automation technicians are skilled workers in demand on the job market and their core tasks include the planning, design and production of machines and automation solutions. Not only mechanical, but also electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and information technology components come together here, making the training versatile and practical.

The challenge of optimizing processes and maintaining often complex systems requires constant training and a good knack for technical innovations. WIFI Upper Austria, for example, trains automation technicians according to recognized standards and offers numerous training opportunities in order to be prepared for modern developments, including in robotics. This knowledge is important not only for an individual's career, but also for Industry 4.0, in which robotics represents a crucial economic factor.

The trainees in Hasbergen impressively demonstrate how creative and solution-oriented the profession of mechatronics engineer can be. Your grill machine is an example of how theory and practice can be combined. Who knows, maybe there will soon be more such innovative ideas from training - for a good piece of sausage and a great piece of craftsmanship!
