Kunsthalle Osnabrück: Ghost exhibition addresses past!

Osnabrück, Deutschland - Finally the time has come! The Kunsthalle Osnabrück opened its annual exhibition on June 21, 2025 with the fascinating topic of "ghosts". This show is a real shop window of creativity that lets visitors immerse yourself in a world, in the past and the present are wonderfully interwoven. And all of this in an atmospheric framework: the Kunsthalle is located in a former Dominican monastery, which gives the exhibition a very special note. The exhibition runs until February 22, 2026 and promises to be a place to learn together and to deal with transgenerational topics.

The focus is on the relationship with our ancestors and the question of how their experiences and stories are passed on from generation to generation. With topics such as traditional handicraft techniques and transgenerational trauma, the Kunsthalle invites visitors to explore their own memories and "hidden spirits". As reported [ndr.de] (https://www.ndr.de/kultur/kunst/kunsthalle-osnabrueck-wach-rauch-- und-ghost-kunsthalle-kunsthalleosnabrueck-100.html), both emotional and material aspects of the topic are treated, with European and non-European perspectives into account.

The artists and their works

The installation "Epona" by the artist Chaveli Sifre, which was inspired by the Celtic goddess of fertility, should be particularly emphasized. This installation combines cloud -like white smoke, mussels, sand paths and various scents that, according to Sifre, create "invisible ways to memories". The artist Minh Duc Pham also set a strong sign with his installation "Never Quite Right". It is dedicated to the Vietnamese contractual workers of the former GDR and shows a sundial in the form of eight flowers, which is decorated with engravings of the conclusion of the contract of April 11, 1980. Furthermore, Christian Diaz Orejarena devotes himself to the biography of Geo von Lengerkes in his work "Otras Rayas - other lines" and addresses colonialism in Colombia.

The various works of art invite visitors to think about the fates and stories of their ancestors. The concept of transgenerational trauma is particularly focused on. This historical phenomenon, in which stressful experiences are passed on from generation to generation, is not only dealt with in art, but also in projects such as "Hakara - Transgenerational Trauma", which was initiated by AMCHA Germany in 2021. The initiative is committed to the dialogue of cross-generational effects of traumatic memories and sensitizes the long-term consequences of violence and persecution, as can be seen on presentspast.org.

free admission and packing station for all visitors

A special delicacy for the anniversary of the Kunsthalle is the free entry to the exhibition and a so -called “packing station”. This is intended to help visitors deal with the impressions and thoughts more intensely after visiting. The year 2025 is all about the exchange with a past and identity - a good reason to take a look at the Kunsthalle Osnabrück and immerse yourself in the world of "spirits".
