Project PoWER: New hope for cancer patients in care!

The future of oncology care is in the spotlight: The promising “PoWEr” project is starting at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, which deals with the need for care in cases of cancer. With funding of around one million euros from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space over three years, the project aims to improve care for people suffering from cancer. Many of the approximately 5 million people in Germany in need of care are fighting cancer, and the illnesses are often complicated. The “PoWEr” project therefore focuses on the development of theoretical and methodological foundations to establish oncology care as an independent research field. Goals and priorities of the project

What exactly is the project planning? The focus is on three central goals:

These measures are intended to make the quality of care measurable and to strengthen nursing competence. Interdisciplinary collaboration in oncology care

In parallel to the initiatives of the “PoWEr” project, the interprofessional and interdisciplinary working group of the Oncological Care Section in the DGP has been committed to developing evidence-based recommendations for action for integrative care measures since October 2021. Founded in 2017 by specialist nurses and doctors from Germany and Switzerland, the working group consists of a steering group and around 30 members who exchange information about the latest developments.

The group meets regularly to work systematically and structuredly on recommendations for the prevention and treatment of disease- and therapy-related side effects.
