Witnesses wanted: accident escape in a supermarket parking lot in Osnabrück!

On Sunday morning, June 15, 2025, an incident that caused a stir occurred in the parking lot of a supermarket on Mindener Straße in Osnabrück. Between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m., an unknown driver of a VW Golf crashed into a gray Mazda while reversing out of a parking space. The driver of the Golf did not take care of the damage and quickly left the parking lot without leaving his personal details.

The owner of the damaged Mazda, a 36-year-old, was alerted to the accident by a witness shortly after the incident. The police are now investigating unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident and are asking the important witness to contact the Osnabrück police station on 0541/327-2515. Other people who have made observations are also welcome to get in touch. The more information there is, the easier it is for officials to track down the perpetrator.

But such behavior is not isolated. A similar case took place on January 13, 2023 in Singen, where an unknown driver damaged a VW Golf while parking or leaving the parking lot of the registration office on Laubwaldstrasse and then fled. The material damage amounted to around 1,500 euros. In this case too, the police officer was asked to call the Singen police station on 07731 888-0 for information. What is striking is that many such incidents often happen in the shadows of parking areas without anyone responsible being found. This recurrence of such accidents gives the impression that drivers leaving the scene of an accident without permission is a common problem.

Road safety statistics in Europe show a worrying trend. According to Eurostat, the number of reported traffic accidents has increased in recent years, which should also influence awareness of one's own responsibility in road traffic. A rethink is required, because even a small moment of inattention can be costly and affect not only the person responsible, but also other road users.

In the case of the accident in Osnabrück, the outcome remains to be seen. The police will do everything in their power to investigate the matter and hope for the support of the public. Whistleblowers are always welcome, because every piece of information, no matter how small, can make a crucial difference. Get moving and help make the streets safer!
