Two burglaries in Osnabrück: perpetrators steal cash and cigarettes!

In Osnabrück, the police reinforced the fight against crime twice this week. Not only were cash and cigarettes stolen in two break-ins, but the perpetrators were also caught quite quickly thanks to attentive citizens.

While the first incident happened on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, between June 24th and 25th, the perpetrators were in the restaurant on Lengericher Landstrasse, in the Hellern district. The restaurant was entered by force, the unknown persons stole cash and then fled in an unknown direction. The local police are asking for information from the public and can be reached on 0541/327-3203 or -2215 to give possible witnesses the opportunity to share their observations.

Immediately after the restaurant robbery, another break-in occurred at a gas station on Wersener Strasse, on Thursday night, at 3:45 a.m. to be precise. Here, two masked men forced their way into the sales room and stole several packs of cigarettes. An attentive witness heard the noise when the car was broken up and immediately informed the police. This witness was able to observe how the perpetrators fled towards Kirchstrasse. The police gave chase and came across two men, 38 and 44 years old, on Atterstrasse who matched the witness's description. Suspected stolen goods in the form of cigarettes were found on those arrested. On the orders of the district court, their apartments were searched, where additional evidence could be secured. The investigation into whether the men were also involved in other burglaries is currently in full swing.

A look at the current burglary situation in Germany shows that burglars are increasingly targeting residential and commercial properties. According to police crime statistics, there were around 77,800 burglaries in 2023, which means an increase of 181 percent compared to the previous year. The months of autumn and winter are particularly dangerous, while most break-ins occur during the day between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Prevention measures are more important than ever before, as almost every second burglary attempt fails because the perpetrators are unable to get into homes or businesses unnoticed. Mechanical security as well as modern technologies such as alarm systems and video surveillance are required to deter potential burglars and, in the best case, to secure evidence.

In summary, it is to be hoped that the rapid arrests in Osnabrück not only clear up this case, but can also serve as a deterrent example for other potential perpetrators, while the investigation continues to clarify whether the two arrested are involved in a larger network. The police will do everything they can to restore calm in the city.

Bunny mail reports that the investigation into the two burglaries is still ongoing and witnesses are being asked to help. Those too New Osnabrücker Zeitung states that those arrested have already offered a glimpse into their criminal careers. The increasing number of burglaries in Germany further illustrates the need for Emergency call experts, which recommend comprehensive preventative measures to optimally protect residents and businesses.
