Truck fire on A2 near Peine: full closure expected until Friday!

Once again, a fire on a truck is causing massive restrictions on the A2 motorway: On Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 2025, a tractor-trailer caught fire on the route near Peine in the direction of Hanover. This incident led to a complete closure of the stretch of road until Friday while the fire department worked on firefighting and rescue operations. The affected Peine-Ost and Peine junctions are currently not accessible.

The truck that was transporting car parts, including batteries and airbags, was completely engulfed in flames shortly after Peine-Ost. Fortunately, there were no injuries because the driver was able to move into the emergency lane in time and uncoupled his vehicle. As already ndr.de reported, the increased asphalt temperature was suspected as a possible cause of the fire. The extinguishing work proved to be lengthy, which is why around 120 emergency services from the Peine Volunteer Fire Department were on site and temporarily helped road users in traffic jams with drinks.

Disabilities in holiday travel

With the start of the summer holidays in Lower Saxony on Thursday, the traffic situation in the region could become even more complicated. Because the salvage work has not yet been completely completed. “The entire vehicle burned out,” was the coincidence, and the asphalt also had to be repaired after the fire. However, the exact duration of this work remains unclear, i.e. drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area and follow the signs on the A2 and A39.

Those affected often complained on social media about traffic jams that lasted for hours and stretched to around 14 kilometers. As in previous incidents, such as in May, when a similar incident affected the A2, immediate measures had to be taken to get the traffic situation back under control. In a previous fire in May, the road was closed until late afternoon after rescue work, showing that such events can quickly become chaotic. The fire department has also announced that LED boards will be set up at the Wolfsburg-Königslutter junction to warn drivers in good time.

The circumstances show how quickly situations can change on highways. Drivers are urged to be patient and monitor the situation. We can only hope that the necessary measures will be implemented quickly and successfully so that everyone reaches their destination safely and quickly.
