Record wind farm in Lower Saxony: 40,000 households with green electricity!

A new chapter in renewable energies is being opened in Lower Saxony. The Energiequelle GmbH has announced the successful commissioning of the Zeven wind farm. This wind farm, consisting of nine modern Vestas V162 turbines, impresses not only with its height of 169 meters, but also with a total output of 54 megawatts (MW), which can theoretically supply around 40,000 households with green electricity.

The construction work on the wind farm took 14 months and remained on schedule despite some challenges such as strong winds and wet moorland. Over 600 hours of crane downtime are documented. Project manager Robert Koddebusch describes the implementation as a major logistical and technical challenge that was ultimately successful.

Economic importance for the region

By putting the Zeven wind farm into operation, the company is not only making a contribution to climate-friendly electricity production, but is also creating economic value for the region. Lease payments and municipal investments promote the local economy and create an incentive for further investments. In addition to Zeven, she is planning Energiequelle GmbH to build additional wind turbines in the Rotenburg district.

The total production volume of the wind farm is expected to be around 133 million kilowatt hours (kWh) annually. In doing so, it will not only contribute to an ecological turnaround, but also represent a clear answer to the restrictions on expansion in the wind energy industry, which are constantly being discussed in Germany. In 2023, 7.4 billion euros were invested in wind power projects, accounting for more than 21% of the total renewable energy investment volume, reports Electricity report.

Looking into the future

The development of the Zeven wind farm is a positive signal in an industry that often struggles with bureaucratic hurdles and complex approval procedures. In 2023, 638 MW were newly installed in Lower Saxony. This wind farm is not only a symbol of the technology, which is very popular, but also an incentive for future projects in the region.

In total, Energiequelle GmbH has installed more than 850 wind turbines with a total output of around 1,700 MW since 1997. With over 550 employees and locations in several German cities as well as in international markets such as France, Finland, Poland and South Africa, the company shows a strong commitment to the development of renewable energies. It remains to be hoped that the positive experiences with the Zeven wind farm can also be transferred to future wind power projects in order to lead Europe into a greener future.
