Santa Claus brings joy to the Helios Children's Hospital in Salzgitter!

On St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, 2025, the children's clinic at Helios Klinikum Salzgitter experienced a very special event. Firefighters caused excitement and joy at the windows of the children's and youth station when the professional fire department and the Salzgitter AG factory fire department carried out their traditional St. Nicholas campaign. A brave firefighter, dressed as Santa Claus, rappelled down from a turntable ladder to the patients and brought small gifts and warm words for the sick children.

The creative campaign caused enthusiasm among parents and staff. Dr. med. Younes Roumeih, the head physician at the Clinic for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, emphasized the importance of such visits for the young patients. This small but nice tradition helps the children to forget for a moment about everyday hospital life and the worries that come with illness. “It motivates and gives the children courage,” said Roumeih. Clinic manager Sascha Kucera also emphasized how important the community is in Salzgitter and announced that the fire department would like to continue this tradition in the coming years.

A tried and tested tradition

The St. Nicholas campaign is not only an integral part of the calendar events, but also a sign of solidarity and support. The direct contact and the small gifts ensure unforgettable moments and help make the difficult times a little more bearable. In a city like Salzgitter, where the community sticks together, such actions are indispensable.

A similar type of engagement can be found in other cultural areas. The Chicago Shakespeare Theater, for example, is an outstanding example of how community is shaped through art and education. With almost 250,000 visitors annually and a varied program, it shows how important cultural events are in bringing people together.

Whether in the theater or in our children's clinic - the need for communal exchange and sustainability extends to all age groups and walks of life. Before Christmas approaches, we can only hope that there will be many more such actions that bring joy and hope to people.
