Würzburg Baskets are strengthening: Ryan Schwieger comes from Lithuania!

The Würzburg Baskets can welcome a new addition to the team. The Fitness First Würzburg Baskets have secured the services of Ryan Schwieger, who was most recently active in Lithuania for Juventus Utena. Schwieger comes to Germany with a lot of experience, especially after he played a key role in RASTA Vechta's promotion to the easyCredit BBL last season. The 26-year-old American's commitment is initially for two months, although those responsible have a good feeling about the commitment.

Baskets sports director Kresimir Loncar expressed his confidence about the new addition: “Schwieger brings the necessary experience and can strengthen our team immediately.” In recent years, Schwieger has proven in the ProA and BBL that he can understand the game and contribute crucial points. In the 2022/2023 season he averaged 14.7 points per game in 30 games and hit 42 percent of his three-pointers.

Strong track record

Schwieger's 2023/2024 BBL season was also impressive. With RASTA Vechta he reached the playoff quarterfinals and contributed 10.7 points per game. His performance against the Würzburg Baskets in April 2024 was particularly notable, when he scored 16 points in 28 minutes. He was also able to impress in his only appearance in the tectake ARENA and scored 12 points, including two successful three-point throws.

However, his season was marred by an injury that only saw him play in four of 40 competitive games. These problems now seem to have been overcome, as Schwieger performed well in the Lithuanian league the last time he was active, with a rate of 56 percent on his three-pointers. Nevertheless, his last appearance was on October 18th, and the Würzburg Baskets hope that he will find his way back to his top form in the coming weeks.

A place for respect

Ryan Schwieger has already emphasized how much he respects the club and the Würzburg Baskets coaching team. It will be interesting to see what he can do in the coming period. The many qualities he brings could be the key for the Baskets to gain a foothold in the league and get back on the road to success.

The anticipation of the new challenges and the upcoming collaboration is palpable. The fans can be excited to see how Schwieger will fit into the team and what kind of stories will develop in the tectake ARENA. With this commitment the team could have shown a good hand and we are looking forward to the games to come.
