VfL Wolfsburg secures Norway's midfield gem Thea Bjelde!

VfL Wolfsburg has landed a new coup: with the Norwegian Thea Bjelde, the club is strengthening its midfield. Again Kicker reports, the 25-year-old is moving to the Wolves from Valerenga IF Oslo on a free transfer. Her contract runs until 2028 and could prove to be a logical step in her career, which Bjelde herself describes as important.

Born in Oslo, Bjelde has had an impressive career. After making her debut in the Toppserie in 2016 for Arna-Bjornar Fotbal, she has shone in a total of 70 league games and important competitions. A further 117 appearances followed for Valerenga, including the UEFA Women's Champions League, where she was represented twice on the international stage. She has already played 28 games for the Norwegian national team, after making her senior national team debut in a friendly against Brazil in October 2022.

The versatility of the new player

What particularly sets Thea Bjelde apart is her versatility. The two-footed player can be used both in defensive midfield and on the right defensive wing. Ralf Kellermann, director of women's football at Wolfsburg, sees her as the perfect addition to the team, especially in external defense. She will also be able to bring these skills to her new team.

The Norwegian has led her home team to great success in Oslo in recent years. During her time at Valerenga she won two league titles and two Norwegian Women's Cups. She was also part of the Norwegian squad that played at the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, appearing in all four games.

Wolfsburg's summer of new arrivals

Bjelde's signing is just one of ten new faces who have joined the Wolves this transfer window. The opportunity to work with her national team colleague Guro Bergsvand, who was signed in June, will certainly ensure faster integration.

The Norwegian women's national football team, which is coached by Gemma Grainger and is one of the most successful teams in the international arena, has also regained its importance. Her significant achievements range from the first World Cup in 1995 to numerous European Championships where she has shone again and again in the past, with a particular focus on the successes of the 90s.
