FDP wants to have a community defense guide as a full -time job: rescue for volunteering!

In Schleswig-Holstein, an exciting topic has become loud in the background: The volunteer fire brigades face challenges that are not easy to manage. The FDP in the state parliament has now submitted a proposal that could bring the fresh wind into the leadership structure. They want to convert the position of the local defense guide into a paid full -time job. The aim is to relieve the volunteering of bureaucratic and administrative tasks. This idea should benefit from large cities and municipalities with over 10,000 inhabitants and provide more effective fire work.

Christopher Vogt, the FDP faction leader, sees the need to give the state government, the state fire brigade association and municipal associations a clear order: to develop a concept for the introduction of full -time military tours by the end of the year. The voices behind this proposal are numerous. Volker Arp, Managing Director of the State Fire Brigade Association, supports the idea and emphasizes that the relief must be developed in detail on site. "There is something," he says, warning that the needs of the individual fire brigades are important.

increasing number of operations demand new ways

The demand for fire service services has increased noticeably in recent years. Around 100 to 150 of the 1,400 fire departments in Schleswig-Holstein perform over 400 missions every year. The increasing operations and the increasingly complicated technology force the volunteer fire departments to break new ground. The application of the FDP makes it clear that the requirements for the military leaders now exceed the limits of the volunteer.

support also comes from Marc Ziertmann, the managing director of the city association. He has inspired more municipal cooperation in the acquisition of vehicles and devices. In addition, Jörg Bülow, Managing Director of the Community Day, has thrown the idea into the room to use full -time wax departments in larger communities. This could be a relief for the volunteer firefighters who have to focus more on the effort and less on bureaucracy.

local experiences show the need for action

A look at Bad Oldesloe, where the volunteer fire brigade has already made impressive 201 missions this year, illustrates the urgency of the concern. A full -time device manager has been employed there since 1993, which facilitates the work on site. Olaf Klaus, the reigning military leader of Bad Oldesloe, on the other hand, is skeptical about a full -time employment by the community leader and sees the bureaucracy as the greatest hurdle.

"We are firefighters, not bureaucrats," emphasizes Klaus, putting it in a nutshell what it really is: to ensure operational readiness and relieve the fire brigade so that they can concentrate on the essentials.

The discussion about the future structure of the voluntary fire departments in Schleswig-Holstein is in full swing and could bring far-reaching changes. With its advance, the FDP has given an important impetus that reacts to the needs of the volunteers and recognizes its valuable work in the community. It remains to be seen how the state government will react to this call for modernization.
