New Flensburg rescue station opens: quick help for everyone!

Today, October 30, 2025, the time has finally come: the new north rescue station of the Flensburg professional fire department will officially go into operation. The trial operation, which started at the beginning of the week, allows those responsible to make final adjustments to the doors and power supply. However, Sabine Schult, a spokeswoman for the professional fire department, speaks cautiously about possible undetected problems, which shows that in such an important facility as emergency care, no detail is too small to be taken into account.

A strategic location for quick help

The new rescue station is located on Harrisleer Straße, in the newly built area of the Harrisleer Kreuz. This strategically convenient location ensures quick connections to both Harrislee and Handewitt. From here, calls from the neighboring communities of Klues, Neustadt and the community of Harrislee - including Niehuus, Wassersleben and Kupfermühle - can be processed quickly. According to information from Speech Request, at least one ambulance will be stationed at the new station to ensure rapid assistance to everyone in the region.

The construction of the rescue station was also intended to put an end to the temporary arrangements that were set up in an industrial hall on Trollseeweg during the corona pandemic. This measure was necessary in order to meet the aid deadlines in the region and to optimize emergency care. With a total budget of around 2.8 million euros, which includes both the facility and the equipment, the station will make a decisive contribution to improving emergency services in the future.

The role of emergency care in the healthcare system

A current study by the Björn Steiger Foundation and the Bertelsmann Foundation, which was carried out together with Maastricht University, questions the efficiency of emergency care in Germany. It is determined that there are deficits in processes, organization and collaboration that need to be remedied. Such deficiencies are alarming, especially in a country where emergency care is a central part of the health system.

The new rescue station could play a crucial role in addressing these deficiencies. A comprehensive concept to optimize the emergency service would be needed, and Flensburg could take a groundbreaking step in the right direction with its modern infrastructure. As part of the emergency response, the new facility could bring a greater level of safety not only to the local population, but also to the surrounding communities.

Is this the beginning of a new era for Flensburg's emergency care? The official opening on Saturday, November 1, 2025 will certainly bring excitement. Citizens will be curious to see how the new rescue station will perform in everyday life and whether it will actually make a significant difference.
