THW Kiel remains unbeaten: 33:25 home win against GWD Minden!
In today's clash in the handball Bundesliga, THW Kiel confidently prevailed against TSV GWD Minden in the local Wunderino Arena. With a final score of 33:25 (17:9), THW remained flawless and consolidated its lead in the table, now with a flawless record of 12 points from six games. Coach Filip Jicha's team shows an impressive performance and makes it clear that they are in high demand this season.
The game started excitingly, with GWD Minden playing without a pivot and initially even leading 2-1. The Kiel team needed a short warm-up time to find their way into the game. After a timeout by coach Jicha - with the score at 4:3 for Minden - Kiel ignited the turbo and went on a 5:0 run that decisively shaped the game. Minden remained goalless within eight minutes, while Kiel pulled ahead to 17:9 by halftime. One reason for the success was, among other things, the strong performance of goalkeeper Andreas Wolff, who parried nine shots in the first half and had a catch rate of 50% Handball World reported.
Strong performance even after the break
Even after the break, THW Kiel stayed on course. With a furious start to the second half, they quickly built a lead of ten goals (22:12, 36th minute). GWD Minden tried to catch up several times, but Kiel kept up the pressure. What was particularly pleasing for the home fans was the comeback of Rene Gruszka, who scored a goal for Minden in the 47th minute after a short career break. The highlight from Kiel's perspective, however, was the first Bundesliga goal from Rasmus Ankermann, who scored in the 54th minute to make it 29:20.
The crowd of 9,692 in the arena created a rousing atmosphere and the players on the field reciprocated the enthusiasm with a strong performance. The two referees, Gimmler and Rips, conducted the game carefully, while the penalty minutes at THW Kiel were only 2 and GWD Minden were recorded 4, which speaks for a fair game.
