The anticipation in Travemünde is great! On July 18, 2025, the 136th Travemünde Week ceremoniously opened and will be in full swing until July 27th. The Baltic Sea resort is once again proving to be a center for international sailing and a top-class maritime festival. At exactly 6 p.m. the official signal “Hot the flag!” was given, followed by the opening speech by the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther (CDU), and Lübeck’s Mayor Jan Lindenau (SPD).

Despite a slight decline in the number of participants, Travemünde Week remains a highlight in the event calendar with up to 600,000 visitors expected. The sporting start was the long-distance regatta “Rund Fehmarn”, in which around 770 sailors from eleven nations take part on 350 boats.

A maritime festival for everyone

The colorful program of the Travemünde Week combines sailing with a fantastic festival. Visitors can experience up close the sailing in and out of yachts and dinghies in the Trave, and the piers such as Priwall, Grünstrand and Mövenstein offer the best places for interested spectators. The Trave Races take place every afternoon around 5 p.m., accompanied by expert commentators so that no one misses the action.

A special highlight of this week is the Volksbank Rotspon Cup, in which the mayor of Lübeck competes against his Cologne counterpart. This competition promises excitement, not only because of the honor, but also because of the honorable award ceremony - a magnum bottle of Rotspon! This year, Lübeck's mayor will compete against Reinhard Meyer, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Minister for Economy, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labor.

Cultural diversity and entertainment

Aside from the regattas, a rich cultural program provides variety. Two stages are equipped with music acts and events, including shanty choirs and cover bands that conquer the big stage. The children can also look forward to it - a children's disco and rock and pop classics await the young guests. There will also be the return of the popular Bayern tent with brass music and traditional costumes, which will certainly create a good atmosphere.

Since its founding in 1889, the Travemünde Week has developed into one of the largest regatta series in the world. With a focus on catamarans and a spectator-friendliness that allows starts on the show track, it remains not only a sporting event, but also a large folk festival. Visitors are warmly invited to enjoy the maritime atmosphere to the fullest and discover the diverse offerings surrounding this sailing event that takes place year after year.

We recommend using public transport to get there, with additional bus connections and extended ferry times. A crowning conclusion to the 136th Travemünde Week will be celebrated on July 27th at 10:45 p.m. with an impressive fireworks display - a highlight that no one should miss!

Overall, it becomes clear: The Travemünde Week is not just a pure sailing event, but a celebration of culture, sport and community that captivates numerous visitors every year.
