Neumünster in turmoil: AfD founds controversial youth organization!

The new AfD youth organization “Generation Germany” was founded in Neumünster. At the event, Jasper Griebel was elected chairman with a clear result of 30 yes votes and only 2 no votes. Griebel, who takes a clear stance against those who refuse to integrate, demands that they have to leave the country and also advocates the construction of new nuclear power plants. The venue was surrounded by around 500 counter-demonstrators, clearly protesting against right-wing views. Such confrontations are not uncommon when it comes to the appearances of the AfD, which has been considered a “suspected right-wing extremist case” since 2021 and has been classified as a “certain right-wing extremist” party since May 2025, as on bpb.de documented.

The founding event itself took place in Giessen, and among the expected guests were well-known figures from the right-wing extremist scene, such as Götz Kubitschek, who is considered one of the intellectual fathers of the new right. Although he is not an AfD member, he presents his ideologies and works there. Matthias Helferich, a controversial figure who was expelled from the AfD, also remains at the center of contentious debates as he and his confidant Patrick Heinz fight for a deputy post against Manuel Linnemann, who is considered a moderate. These constellations paint a picture in which the new youth organization wants to preserve largely radical content, which is not surprising given the existing connections to the Identitarian Movement tagesschau.de reported.

Right-wing extremism as a social challenge

Right-wing extremism represents a constant threat to democracy in Germany. Historically developed supply structures and increasing social demand for such ideologies show that the extreme right is becoming more flexible. According to the bpb Right-wing extremism is encouraged by social and economic crises that support radicalization. These circumstances ensure that right-wing extremist structures not only modernize but also become increasingly networked.

The risk that such structures gain influence through informal networks, migration movements or through the populism of parties like the AfD is high. At the local level, these developments manifest themselves, for example, in the form of events and through membership in informal groups. Such developments are forcing society to deal more intensively with extremism - a task for society as a whole that requires every individual.

Meanwhile, there is also other news from the region: Holstein Kiel won 2-0 in its first game of the year against SC Paderborn. However, there are worrying reports about a possible serious head injury to a Paderborn defender. Meanwhile, in Norderstedt, there was an argument in a hostel that resulted in dangerous bodily harm; a 28-year-old man was injured with a knife. The police are currently looking for the suspect, who is already known.

A vigil was also held in Lübeck on the occasion of an arson attack 30 years ago, attended by between 650 and 750 people who wanted to send a strong signal. And in Büsum there was a railway crossing accident involving a work machine, which fortunately did not result in any injuries.

So what is the weather situation in Schleswig-Holstein? The outlook is mostly dry with highs between 3 and 5 degrees. At night it will remain clear and temperatures can drop to minus 3 degrees. Good advice for anyone who has to go outside: dress warmly!
