St. Peter-Ording named the most beautiful beach in Germany - but criticism is growing!

St. Peter-Ording is on everyone's lips! The popular holiday resort on the North Sea has just been named the most beautiful beach in Germany. This award, given by the travel group TUI, is based on the evaluation of over 5,000 Google reviews of European beaches. This puts St. Peter-Ording in 12th place in a European comparison and is also the favorite among the German beaches. But the joy of this prestigious title is clouded by divided opinions on social media. Critics question the choice and are considering other beaches such as Usedom, Sylt or the Baltic Sea coast. Many people are also concerned about the constantly rising prices in St. Peter-Ording, where accommodation costs have risen from 58 euros in 2018 to 148 euros today. The tourist tax is also perceived as an additional burden, which leads to a certain degree of dissatisfaction among visitors. These developments cast a shadow over the objectively established popularity of the place, which is proven by numerous positive reviews.

However, the beauty of St. Peter-Ording is appreciated by many. As TUI employee Heide points out, the region is known for its endless beach, impressive surroundings and relaxed atmosphere. The beach is not only the largest in Germany, but also offers space for every taste - be it for nature lovers, families with children or water sports enthusiasts. With a width of up to two kilometers and a length of up to twelve kilometers, there is enough space to enjoy the fresh North Sea air.

Diverse beach sections

The five beach sections in the Wadden Sea National Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, make St. Peter-Ording a special destination. The tradition of stilt buildings is more than a hundred years old and offers facilities such as restaurants, toilets and changing rooms. If you go to the northernmost section of the beach, you can enjoy the solitude and take a look at the Westerhever lighthouse. The range of beach bars is also attractive: Bar 54° Nord, for example, offers a unique panoramic view over the wide sea.

If you want to travel with your family or dogs, you will find an ideal environment in St. Peter-Ording. Manual or electric sand wheelchairs are available at all bathing areas for people with limited mobility. Dogs are also allowed on the beach, although they are required to be kept on a leash outside of the off-leash areas. Thanks to the guest card, all buses in the region can be used free of charge, making it easy to explore the beautiful place.

Activities and excursion destinations

St. Peter-Ording has more to offer than just the beach! Visitors can also find material to dream about in the surrounding towns. The distinctive Westerhever lighthouse, which rises 37 meters in height and offers breathtaking panoramic views, attracts many tourists. Tönning, a picturesque harbor town, and the lively town of Husum with its ferry connections to the Halligen and islands are also popular excursion destinations.

The ranking, which includes the 15 most beautiful beaches in Germany, shows that St. Peter-Ording is not alone. Other northern German beaches have also secured a place in the ranking. This variety of beaches and the beauty of nature continue to attract visitors, even if opinions differ about prices and accessibility.

So it remains to be seen how the situation in St. Peter-Ording will develop. For many, the place remains a place to go for a relaxed North Sea holiday, as long as you are prepared to dig a little deeper into your pockets for the experience. The discussions on social media may continue, but the popularity of St. Peter-Ording as an attractive holiday destination is undisputed.
