Bremen increases funding for PJ students to 150 euros per month!
Something is happening in the field of medical training in Bremen! The Bremen Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) has decided to significantly increase financial support for students in their practical year (PJ). Instead of the previous 100 euros, prospective doctors can now look forward to 150 euros per month. This should make it a little easier for students to decide to do their internship in the Hanseatic city. This adjustment no longer only affects general practitioners' practices, but also opens up the funding to all accredited teaching practices in Bremen, so that all universities can now benefit from it. The Bremen Medical Association has also announced that it will increase its share to the new level. The total funding for PJ students in Bremen is currently 400 euros per month, as this sum is made up of contributions from the Senate Department of Health, the Medical Association, the KV Bremen and the teaching practices.
The new regulations are in place for a reason. Discussions about improving the general conditions for the PJ in Bremen have been ongoing since mid-2022. There are even recommendations to increase the monthly flat rate from 400 to 600 euros in order to make Bremen more attractive as a training location. However, the senatorial authority has made it clear that an increase in its share is excluded. In the future, specialist practices that are recognized as academic teaching practices at a university could also be eligible for funding.
Perspectives for the practical year
The Department of General Medicine at the University of Oldenburg is actively doing its part to improve the training of future doctors. Anyone who would like to complete their internship in one of the local family doctor's practices will find a sympathetic ear here. The teaching doctors have undergone special training in order to be able to offer the students optimal care. These training courses are designed and carried out by the department, with the range of experience of teachers who have been on board since the model course in human medicine was founded. Positive feedback from the first PJ students in general medicine shows that this concept is on fertile ground.
Valuable mentor support is an important component during your stay in the family doctor's office. Regular discussions and personal visits to the practice are an integral part of the care. Particularly interesting: The internship places are not allocated centrally, but the practical teams and students work together to clarify suitability for the practical year in advance. It is important to contact the PJ practice independently and arrange an internship.
Information and registration options
If the PJ could be good for you, you should find out early enough so that you don't miss out on the latest details. Successful passing of the second state examination is a prerequisite for participation. Students can also take part in online and face-to-face KANN seminars to deepen their knowledge of general medical diagnostics. Registration takes place via the PJ portal, although there are no options for selecting specific practices. More detailed information, especially about registration formalities, can be found on the website of the model course in human medicine.
If you have any further questions, please contact Ms. Jana Deppermann at the Dean of Studies Office. If you have specific concerns about general medicine, please contact Dr. Simply email Markus Ennen at markus.ennen@uol.de.
Overall, it shows that Bremen is willing to become more attractive as a training location, and these adjustments give students new perspectives.
