Bremen fights with Stauchaos-FDP urgently demands traffic jam monitoring!

Bremen, Deutschland - What about Bremen's streets? The answer to this is anything but rosy, especially because the city of Bremen does not collect its own data on the traffic situation. According to a response from the Senate to a request from the FDP, the city is not able to create traffic jams for forecasts and also has no access to detailed information from providers: inside that capture traffic jams in real time. This criticism makes Fynn Voigt, the FDP's traffic policy spokesman, clear by denouncing the red-green-red coalition for its careless attitude in terms of traffic. He vehemently demands the establishment of permanent traffic jam monitoring, which would not only help to analyze traffic jams more effectively, but also contributes to better planning construction sites.

A look at the current traffic jam hotspots shows that on the A1 in the area of the Weser Bridge and on the B6/B75 towards Delmenhorst, it is currently particularly tight, especially through existing construction sites. There are already traffic disruptions on other routes.

traffic information and traffic jams

  • green = free journey
  • orange = dense traffic
  • red = traffic jam
  • dark red = traffic jam
  • black = lock

Current traffic jams of July 5, 2025 show:

route period duration (minutes) length (km)
L168: Between Achimer Straße and Oyterdamm / Am Moor registered: 05:00 3 0.3
B51: Between Hauptstraße / Azaleenweg and Hauptstraße registered: 04:53 2 0.1

In addition, according to stumelder-karte.de there are several closures in the city, including:

  • between Delmenhorst and Annenheider Allee (length: 0.7 km)
  • between Kastanienallee and Consulnstrasse (length: 0.2 km)
  • between Neuer Steindamm and Bremer Heerstraße / Deichweg (length: 0.1 km)

construction sites and their effects

The city also has to deal with numerous construction sites. A noteworthy construction site is located between Nikolaus-Otto-Straße and the A1 with a low loss of time of only 1 minute. But here too the problem shows: Many construction sites have so far not been able to lose any significant loss of time. However, this cannot hide the fact that the construction work can very well hinder the flow of traffic.

The demand for effective traffic jam monitoring is becoming more and more urgent, because it is clear that preventive measures are necessary to relieve the streets. Perhaps it makes sense to orientate yourself by the example of other cities, where such systems have already been successfully implemented. A good knack for planning and implementation could also be helpful in Bremen to get the engine of the transport infrastructure rolling back.

The traffic chaos in Bremen is therefore a current topic that not only affects drivers: on the inside, but concerns all of us. After all, there are also ways to influence the traffic sustainably. Further information can be found on fitstraffic.com.
