Bremen runs 10: 630 participants celebrate a record at the final event!

The final event of “Bremen runs 10!” took place last weekend. took place at the Marcusbrunnen in the beautiful Bremen Bürgerpark. With a record number of 630 participants, the event, which was initiated by the Bremer Herzen Foundation in cooperation with the Bremen Athletics Association (BLV), celebrated its largest edition to date. Supported by the German Society for Cardiology (DGK), the project has been pursuing the goal of introducing people to physical exercise and promoting long-term sporting activity since 2018.

Over ten weeks, the participants trained in 31 groups under the expert eye of qualified trainers. This preparation paid off: the final event covered a distance of 10 kilometers, divided into comfortable 2.5-kilometer laps. The highlight: Everyone could run or walk at their own pace, without the pressure of being timed. The event was not only a challenge, but above all a pleasure in which every participant was able to enjoy the sense of achievement. Rubber bands as a reward after each round provided additional motivation and made faces smile.

Positive experiences from participants

The emotional connection that participants built to this event is remarkable. Anne Meyer, one of the participants, shared her positive experiences: “It was great to see how many people are here, all wanting to take a step towards health.” The story of Birgit Euler, who was previously unable to take part in such events due to health problems, was particularly touching. During the training she finally felt fit enough to be active and experience the community.

Doris von Wulfen, press spokeswoman for the foundation, expressed the wish to expand the project to other urban areas, such as Gröpelingen, in order to get people excited about exercise there too. The need for such offers is enormous and is also underlined by developments in health promotion.

Movement as a challenge for society as a whole

As part of the current discussion about promoting physical activity, the Federal Ministry of Health held a follow-up event to the Round Table on Exercise and Health at the end of March 2025. Institutions involved, including those from the federal, state and municipal umbrella organizations, have agreed to participate in the future. Results show that measures to promote physical activity need to be improved, including framework conditions, target groups and the visibility of the topic.

This makes local events like “Bremen Runs 10!” all the more important, as they actively contribute to health promotion and at the same time strengthen a sense of community. Those interested can find further information about this great project on the Bremer Herzen Foundation website at bremer-herzen.de.

The organizers have shown great commitment and want to continue to ensure more exercise among the population - this is more important than ever these days. Because as the saying goes: “If you move, you stay healthy!”
