The Dresden Ice Lions suffered a bitter defeat against the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven on the 14th matchday of the ice hockey season. But the opponent was not discouraged and equalized in the second third through Nicolas Krämer in the 31st minute. However, Austin Ortega restored Dresden's old lead five minutes later.

In the third third, however, it was Bremerhaven's turn again. A penalty against Emil Johansson for tripping brought the Penguins back into the game, and Alex Friesen equalized on the power play. Barely a minute later, Andy Miele gave the Penguins the lead with a goal, which put the Ice Lions under pressure. Another goal from Matthew Abt in the final minute finally sealed the fate for the Ice Lions, the game ended 4-2 for the Fischtown Pinguins.

After the game, coach Niklas Sundblad spoke of a missed opportunity and emphasized that the team had to focus on the next game on Wednesday. The Ice Lions' fighting spirit and performance were undisputed, but they lacked the final bite to survive against a strong Bremerhaven. “The defeat hurts,” said Sundblad, who pointed out the positive aspects of his team and was optimistic about the future.

Since its founding in 1994, the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) has developed into the highest ice hockey league in Germany.
