Maritime Week in Bremen: A festival of lights and experiences!

Finally the time has come! The Maritime Week in Bremen started today and runs until September 21, 2025. Over eight days, visitors can experience the diversity of maritime culture at the Schlachte along the banks of the Weser. From concerts to guided tours to exhibitions and exciting activities on and along the Weser, there is something to discover for every taste. Last year around 78,000 people attended this maritime celebration, and expectations are high this year too. The City Initiative, organizer of the event, has put together an extensive program that brings Bremen's maritime history to life.

The first six days start with a particularly exciting offer, the so-called discovery days. From September 13th to 18th, those interested can take part in guided tours, lectures and city and boat tours. The focus is on topics such as the transformation of the overseas city, global fisheries policy and the future of maritime technology. The highlights also include a Weser information tour with the historic “MS Friedrich”, the steamship that is over 140 years old.

An unforgettable highlight: the lights trip

An absolute must this year will be the big lights trip on September 20th, which starts at 7 p.m. Illuminated ships from Bremen and the surrounding area will sail along the Weser in festive splendor. Spectators can marvel at this spectacle from the bridges and waterfront promenades. During the journey there is the opportunity to enjoy snacks and drinks. The turnaround of the light journey takes place in front of the Sielwall ferry, not at Café Sand. The event will be crowned with an impressive fireworks display that will be set off at around 9 p.m. at the Teerhof Bridge. Skippers are also invited to take part - but berths are already fully booked.

The entire program at the Schlachte is complemented by culinary specialties, music, exhibitions and hands-on activities, which are offered primarily on the festival weekend (September 19th to 21st). This also includes an exciting research mile on Saturday and Sunday that deals with marine life and maritime technologies.

Colorful variety and little treasures

The crowning conclusion of the Marine Week will be the Melitta Schlachte DrachenbootCup from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 21st, as well as the first maritime flea market, which will also take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. At colorful stands, those interested can find everything from accessories and equipment to gift items and maritime curiosities. Visitors can also look forward to Sunday shopping in Bremen city center from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., which rounds off the maritime festival program.

The Maritime Week not only highlights Bremen's maritime tradition, but also brings the community together. When the wait is over, it becomes clear: the adventure on the water is definitely a good reason to be happy!
