Colorful hustle and bustle on the 15th MV Day: Greifswald celebrates with music and enjoyment!

Greifswald is celebrating its 15th MV day today under a bright blue sky and a great atmosphere. These festivities not only attract the local population, but also numerous guests from the area who enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city center.
The event is dedicated to the city's 775th anniversary and provides a diverse program under the motto “Tradition, Innovation and Diversity”. Over 90 exhibitors from all areas are represented and present their offerings in twelve experience areas that offer entertainment, culinary and educational experiences.

Today began with an ecumenical service at 11 a.m. in the historic market, which had the theme “The unifying power of music” and was led by Bishop Tilman Jeremias. The shanty choir De Klaashahns and other performances provided musical entertainment, which perfectly rounded off the festive setting. The well-known presenter Wolfgang Lippert will also delight the audience with his program “Best of Störtebeker”.

Festival program and highlights

The highlight of the event will be the final concert of the Greifswald choir “Solala”, which is on the program towards the evening. But Saturday and Sunday have much more to offer: Saturday began with a warm-up party and the concert by the musician Marquess, followed by the official opening by Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Mayor Stefan Fassbinder. In the evening, a big MV day party with live music from Joris awaits the guests.

The Sunday program is particularly varied and continues at 12.25 p.m. with the program of the Heimatverband MV e.V. From 2.35 p.m., visitors can look forward to Jo & Josephine singing “Rejoice in the North”. Another highlight will be the official handover to the host city of MV Day 2027 at 4 p.m. In addition, the MV Day will be designed to be barrier-free, with accessible parking spaces and a ramp at the main stage, making the event accessible to all citizens.

A celebration for the whole family

There is a special treat for the little visitors: Ernie and Bert from Sesame Street as well as characters from KIKA are there to entertain the children. The NDR broadcasts from the Vorpommernstudio on Knopfstrasse also offer exciting insights and technology demonstrations - an excellent opportunity for guests to find out more about NDR's programs.

The bells of many churches ring in a sign of communal celebration and mark the beginning of concerts, sports tournaments and numerous shows. Another happy anniversary being celebrated this year is the 250th birthday of the famous painter Caspar David Friedrich, whose works are highly regarded in the region.

The people of Greifswald have really shown a good hand when it comes to planning this extensive program. Whether entertainment, cuisine or culture – MV Day has something to offer for everyone and promises an unforgettable experience for young and old.
