Woman harassed in Hamburg-Marienthal – police ask for information!

Today, June 15, 2025, an incident in Hamburg is causing a stir: an unknown perpetrator harassed a 26-year-old woman in Hamburg-Marienthal during the night. The incident occurred at 2:56 a.m. in the Mittelkamp/Rodigallee area, right near the “Osterkamp” stop. The woman who was getting off the bus was followed by a man who clearly had sexual intentions. This reports news.de.

The situation escalated when the perpetrator held the young woman and touched her inappropriately. Although the woman screamed loudly for help, the perpetrator was able to escape. He is described as male, of Southeast European appearance, around 30 to 35 years old, around 175 to 180 cm tall, with short dark hair and a full beard. He was wearing a light T-shirt, a dark sweat jacket and dark long pants. The police are currently desperate with the search, which has so far been unsuccessful despite intensive measures. Witnesses are urged to contact the Hamburg police directly on 040/4286-56789 or the nearest police station if they have any information.

Current crime situation in Hamburg

Concerns about security have been a hot topic in recent years. According to the Hamburg police However, the overall police crime statistics in 2024 are positive, with a decrease in crimes of 4 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 224,913 crimes were recorded, which corresponds to a reduction of 9,328 cases. What is particularly striking is the drastic reduction in murder and manslaughter crimes, which have been almost halved, as well as the decline in residential burglaries. Nevertheless, the figures also show a 7 percent increase in violent crimes, which is particularly observed in districts such as St. Pauli and St. Georg.

A worrying trend is the increase in sexual assault crimes, which rose by 3.1 percent, with many of these offenses taking place in a relationship context. This development particularly affects the discussion about the safety of women in the city. Interior Senator Andy Grote and Police Chief Falk Schnabel have spoken positively about the general progress in combating crime, but also point out the ongoing challenges.

The police as a contact point

The Hamburg police are under great pressure, especially with regard to sexual crimes, which cannot remain acceptable despite declining overall statistics.
