New office in Altona: wood construction work started for a creative community!
What's happening in Altona? Great things are being achieved in the local construction landscape these days, as the construction phase for the New Altona Office began on June 23rd. The first wooden beams were lifted over the listed Altona tax office, an impressive step in a project that will create both modern office space and common areas.
The new six-story building, which is being built on Neue Große Bergstrasse, will have a total of four floors of wooden construction. It is expected to be completed by spring 2026. The cooperative Neues Amt Altona eG, which is behind this project, has set itself the goal of promoting sustainable urban development and creating a place that promotes creative work and community interaction.
Modern offices for creative people
Around 1,600 square meters will be available to create innovative workplaces. These are intended to particularly benefit the self-employed and small companies who find space for creative work here. A special highlight of the project is the Chickpeace Cantina, which will offer lunch in the future and thus contribute to the revitalization of the district. By using wood as a central building material, the Altona New Office not only contributes to creating a healthy indoor climate, but also focuses on flexibility in use.
What is particularly interesting is that the ground floor of the new building publicly connects the old and new buildings. This is all about promoting social interactions and networking between local people. The cooperative therefore invites everyone interested to get to know the idea of the New Altona Office and become part of this initiative. The membership deadline is September 30, 2025.
Sustainability in focus
The decision to use wood as a building material is no coincidence. Wood is increasingly seen as a sustainable alternative to conventional materials. The Berlin Senate, for example, is committed to increasing the use of wood in order to be able to contribute to climate protection as carbon dioxide storage. Similar developments can also be seen in other cities, where the focus is increasingly on sustainable construction and innovative technologies are being used.
The New Altona Office not only sets an architectural example, but also writes an important chapter in urban development that could serve as a model for other projects. The measures aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in urban areas and create sustainable living spaces that meet people's needs. With its approach, the Neues Amt Altona cooperative has the potential to strengthen social connections and at the same time contribute to ecological sustainability.
A lot is happening in Altona - and it will be exciting to see how this ambitious project will progress. The best conditions are in place to become a lively place for creation and encounters.
