Stau-albaum in Hamburg: A7 and Elbe tunnel until Monday tight!

In Hamburg, drivers face some challenges at the weekend. Autobahn 7 has been closed at 5 a.m. since Friday evening to Monday morning. The affected section extends between Hamburg-Stellingen and Hamburg-Heim-Heimfeld towards the south. The reason for this closure is a new marker of the South directional lane, which is necessary to expand the A7 to eight traces. Even the Elbe tunnel is not spared from this measure, which leads to traffic jams and tough traffic in and around the city. For example, the journey time on the A1 between Hamburg-Billstedt and Hamburg-Stillhorn is extended by more than an hour.

The traffic control center reports less traffic jams than expected, but disabilities can still be expected. Drivers switch to the A1 or try to drive through the city, which leads to traffic jams on the B75, B4, A1 and A255. The detour for the drivers concerned runs via the B205, the A21 and the A1. In particular, large-scale and heavy-duty transports are also asked to avoid extensively.

planned closures and diversion strategies

The closures of the A7 are not the only ones this year. Several further full closures are already planned for 2025. These usually last around 55 hours and usually take place from Friday evening to Monday morning. The next dates are:

  • 4. until July 7: Tunnel Schnelsen
  • 26. until September 29: Elbe tunnel
  • 17. until October 20: Elbe tunnel
  • 7. until November 10th: Hochstraße K20
  • 14. until November 17: Tunnel Stellingen
  • 6. until December 7th: Hochstraße K20 (night work)

The reasons for these locks are diverse. In addition to the expansion of the A7 to eight traces, the assembly of new traffic sign bridges and a software upgrade in the Elbe tunnel is also carried out. Drivers who want to go to Hamburg Airport, for example, should plan more time or consider public transport.

current traffic situation

If you want to find out about the current flow of traffic, you can use an interactive dashboard that shows the current traffic situation on German highways. In real time, drivers learn where traffic jams form and how the travel times are. The motorway traffic centers are also working to provide information quickly and efficiently in order to make traffic smoothly. A look at the dashboard cannot hurt before you go on the trip.

In view of the multitude of construction sites and closures,

there could be a bumpy time in the known motorway sections in the coming weeks. So stay well informed and plan in time. The A7, as one of the longest German highways, remains an important north-south connection, but also an area in which patience is required.
