Wemolo digitizes Hamburg parking garages: moving into the future!
Something is happening in the world of parking garages in the Hamburg area: Wemolo recently took over two locations that were previously operated by the insolvent DPG Deutsche Parken Gesellschaften GmbH under the Avrio brand. This takeover is not only a clever move, but also a sign of digitalization in park management. How IZ reported, DPG's insolvency proceedings were opened on April 22nd last year.
Wemolo, a provider of fully digital parking solutions, has secured two locations: a parking garage with 300 spaces in Hamburg-Winterhude and a parking area in Hamburg-Altona. Avrio's previously outdated barrier and ticket systems should give way to a modern approach based on artificial intelligence and a barrier-free parking system. Wemolo shows that they have a good knack for future-oriented solutions.
Digitalization for parking
With the introduction of AI-supported license plate recognition, Wemolo wants to revolutionize parking space management. This modern technology enables fully automatic recording of parking transactions and thus also uncomplicated online payments. Another advantage: By switching to a barrier-free system, operating costs fall by up to 25 percent, while the income of short-term parkers increases by an impressive 50 percent. Wemolo is doing good business and demonstrating how digital innovation can influence urban space.
In addition, the parking areas are opened to residents in the evening and at night, which generates new revenue streams. At a time when cities are becoming increasingly crowded and parking pressure is increasing, this is a sensible step to meet the needs of local residents. The focus is therefore on premium urban locations with good transport connections. Statista notes that more and more people around the world live in cities. Innovative solutions in the area of mobility are essential to prevent future traffic collapse.
A look into the future
Wemolo's approach is part of a larger trend evident in urban centers: digitalization and the need to improve existing transport systems. As the mobility of people and goods becomes more and more important, new ways must be found to relieve the burden on existing systems. The company already has over 3,000 locations and processes more than two million parking transactions daily, demonstrating the scale and impact of their operations.
Wemolo shows that the future of parking is not only digital, but also flexible and adaptable. Their solutions could be groundbreaking for other cities and companies wanting to address the challenges of urban mobility. More and more people need alternatives to their own car, which is also reflected in the booming demand for car sharing and other mobility services. Perhaps it's not too far-fetched to say that we will soon be living in a new era of parking and urban mobility.
