British warship HMS Duncan impresses Hamburg until Tuesday!

The Port of Hamburg has a very special guest performance to offer this Friday. The British guided missile destroyer HMS Duncan moored on November 23rd, 2025 and will remain at the Überseebrücke until Tuesday, November 28th, 2025. The ship was welcomed with open arms upon its arrival from Portsmouth and interested visitors had the opportunity to take a closer look at the impressive warship on Saturday.

The “HMS Duncan”, which was commissioned in 2013, measures an impressive 152 meters in length and weighs 8,500 tons. With a width of 21.20 meters and a draft of 7.40 meters, she is one of the modern warships designed for air defense and the leadership of fleet units. Equipped with highly sensitive sensors and advanced weapon systems, the ship can also carry up to two Lynx Wildcat helicopters or a Westland Merlin transport helicopter on its platform.

Significant missions and history

The “HMS Duncan” is not only a technical masterpiece, but also a part of proud British naval history. Since her commissioning, the ship has participated in many international operations, including deployments to the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In 2015 it was part of a US Navy Carrier Strike Group to fight against the Islamic State. The “Duncan” continued to be active in subsequent years, be it in NATO exercises or in supporting shipping traffic in conflict-ridden waters.

Until now, the “HMS Duncan” was the flagship Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 in action and played a significant role during the Gaza crisis last year. The ship provided air defense for the USS Wasp and was an important part of multinational exercises.

Visit to Hamburg

The visit to Hamburg is being coordinated by the Hamburg State Command as part of Host Nation Support, and a Senate reception in honor of the ship is also scheduled for Tuesday. On Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. it's time to cast off! Then the “HMS Duncan” will set sail again.
