An unfortunate incident occurred in Hamburg today, October 30, 2025, in which a person was hit by a falling tree. The scene of the accident is on Im Gehölz street in the Eimsbüttel district. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries in heavy rain and strong gusts of wind. The emergency doctor and rescue service arrived quickly at the scene and provided initial medical care before the person was taken to hospital. Weather conditions were extremely unfavorable at the time of the incident. Strong gusts of wind and rain caused an increased risk on the streets of Hamburg. Storm causes chaos in the city
The situation in Hamburg was tense. The districts of Harburg, Neugraben and Wilhelmsburg were particularly affected, where around two dozen operations occurred within 90 minutes of the first heavy rain. The fire department was required to remove both broken branches and fallen trees from the paths. On Max-Schmeling-Straße, a 30 meter high maple tree even fell onto the street and crashed into a street lamp. Removing this tree took over five hours.
Another incident occurred later in the evening when a tree fell on a parked car on Beckerbergstrasse. Luckily there were no injuries. Such events are not uncommon in the current fall season, especially when storms like Depression “Joshua” move across the region. This weather situation not only brought strong winds, but also a storm surge that flooded the fish market, although initially without causing any significant damage.
The weather forecast shows that it will continue to be windy next week, although the gusts should gradually subside. For the time being, no further storm surges are expected in the region, which could ease the situation somewhat.
