Intercity on Sylt route: Collision with sheep paralyzes train travel!

An unfortunate incident occurred today on the popular railway line from Hamburg to Sylt: a Deutsche Bahn Intercity collided with a flock of sheep. The accident occurred between Elmshorn and Itzehoe, which caused significant delays for travelers. 175 passengers had to wait on the train for over two hours before they could continue on replacement buses, as T-Online reports.

The incident occurred in the afternoon when the train was on its way to Westerland. After the collision, the train came to a standstill and police subsequently interviewed witnesses near the track. It is currently unclear whether the Intercity was damaged in the collision. Meanwhile, the line between Elmshorn and Itzehoe was closed, paralyzing rail traffic in this area. However, Deutsche Bahn quickly set up a replacement shuttle service to provide the stranded travelers with the best possible support, as Tagesspiegel states.

Passengers and replacement buses

The waiting passengers have to endure a tense situation for 125 minutes while waiting. It cannot be overlooked that such incidents affect travel plans and require additional pioneering work from the railways. Fortunately, after the long wait, the travelers were finally able to board the replacement buses provided to continue their journey.

As T-Online reports, the police stood by the affected passengers and conducted the appropriate interviews to find out exactly what led to this unfortunate incident. The safety of travelers is the top priority and it therefore remains to be seen what findings the investigations will reveal.

During the course of the day it is certainly expected that Deutsche Bahn will provide further information on the consequences of the accident. All travelers are encouraged to keep themselves informed about current developments and possible adjustments to their travel plans.
