New life for Wilhelmsburg: Korallusviertel is getting fit for the future!

In Wilhelmsburg there has been renewed momentum in the development of the Korallusviertel. The second construction phase to redesign the outdoor areas began on July 22, 2025. These extensive measures will not only improve the appearance of the district, but also strengthen social cohesion. Hamburg.de reports that, among other things, a new streetball field is being built for sports-loving youth, as well as a multifunctional building with a grandstand, play and lounge areas. There are also comfortable seating areas and barbecue areas that invite you to spend the afternoons outdoors.

The redesign also includes greening facades and planting new trees, which not only benefits the aesthetics of the district, but also the city's climate. The entire initiative is supported by the Hamburg-Mitte district office as part of the Integrated District Development (RISE) program. Around 1.3 million euros from urban development funding from the federal government and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will flow into the implementation.

A variety of measures for a livable neighborhood

The plans also include the renovation and construction of new apartments, the creation of new playgrounds and the improvement of transport routes. Social and cultural projects also receive important support to make the district a lively meeting place for all age groups. The goal is clear: the train station and Korallusviertel should develop into a harmonious and livable place for the community.

Intensive citizen participation accompanied this planning process, particularly via the Wilhelmsburg-Ost District Advisory Board. Residents were able to contribute their opinions and present ideas for redesigning the district. The result is an oasis of well-being that promotes communal activities and invites you to linger.
